I hate cleaning.
We had a speaker come to my work once and he had us stick lots of colorful stickers on a piece of cardboard and then we counted the colors and were supposed to come up with an amazing epiphany about ourselves. I stuck a sticker on my forehead. I can’t remember what it said.
Either way, I “discovered” that I am Abstract Global. The speaker summed it up when he said, “The Abstract Global is the one who takes the laundry from the dryer and throws it in the Clean Clothes Chair in her room.” Ding, ding! We have a winner!
Here’s my Clean Clothes Chair (picture courtesy of my LG enV):
Nice, eh? I have a dresser. It contains the clothes I don’t wear and should probably donate to Goodwill. My closet is a mess of all sorts of things that rarely get used. I figure I should go all Buddha one day and get rid of all the “stuff” of my life that is keeping me from Enlightenment.
The hardest thing for me is resisting the urge to sit down with my laptop and blog or play Scrabulous on Facebook. I’ve tried my best to streamline things so I don’t have to do as much cleaning. Little things like putting the dirty dishes in the dishwasher right away instead of letting the sink pile up.
My advice to geeks like me who hate cleaning – find ways to make life easier (Death Star!) and then strike a bargain with yourself. Don’t touch the computer until one cleaning task is done. Take a 5-minute break every hour to do something to make your geek kingdom a little less chaotic. (Though a little chaos is always good!)
I have worked 38.5 hours out of the past 72, so I figure that I can let my apartment be a little messy for at least tonight (and maybe tomorrow)…. (and maybe the day after that….)….
