This book sounds like a total blast! I will have to get a copy for my husband, the recovering DM. I think we could have a lot of fun with this book even if we just keep playing our current campaign. ^_^

@ Sean - Sadly, you're not the first person who has told me that. :( Heck, I'm sitting at home running a freelance writing/editing biz and I LOVE RPG content... AEG should just send their stuff to me extra early and let me whip it into shape.

@ Ben - It's MOST useful to a fantasy GM, but there are plenty of things that are adaptable.

For example, pirates are pirates whether they're in the sky or on the sea. ;-)

Also, there are worldbuilding tables that help you decide what governments your cities should have, how their legal system works, their economy, etc etc.

There's tons of personality traits that bridge any setting you'd want to use.

I'd flip through it once it hits bookshelves again and see how much of it works with your campaign before you sink the cash into it - but I can see this as being useful to non-fantasy campaigns, too.

As someone who has, on occasion, written for AEG, I must say that poor proof editing is an AEG 'trademark'. It was the one constant across multiple RPG lines (back when AEG had multiple RPG lines) but I never knew why. As you say, you would think for a $50 book you would want it to be as error free as possible.

Cool information, thanks -- I'll have to check that out. And yes, inconsistencies like the ones you describe are absolutely maddening for editors.

(<b>Note to RPG writers and editors:</b> Understandably, you're often up against tight deadlines, but <i>always</i> create room in your schedule for proofreading. You need to read each word of text, each sentence, and each paragraph. Take nothing for granted. Boring? Yes, possibly. But few things harm the professional look of a finished product more than glaring grammatical/proofreading errors.)

Is it setting dependent, then? Which is to say, it sounds like it would be most useful for a GM running a campaign with a fantasy theme, rather than, say, a modern police procedural or an actioney space opera. Is that impression correct?
