AvatarArt Contest: Show Your Halloween Spirit

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

What, that’s Christmas?

Nah.  HALLOWEEN, BABY!

The fine folks at AvatarArt have a bi-monthly magazine called Adventure Art, which is full of awesome artwork that you can use to inspire your players (or your GM!).

The latest issue is a “monster-sized” double issue full of all the scariest, nastiest monsters possible.  Check it out here. If you love monsters, you’re going to want to get your hands on it!

And… what?  I’m giving away FIVE COPIES of the PDF version right here?

The Contest

Since I’m giving away FIVE copies of the PDF of Adventure Art #3, there are FIVE ways to win this contest.

#1 -  Best Male Geek Halloween Costume Picture

#2 – Best Female Geek Halloween Costume Picture

In the comments, submit a link to a picture of either you or a member of your family in a geeky Halloween costume.  I’ll be flexible on what qualifies as “geek” – so zombies and pirates and ninjas are all good.

#3 – Best SCARY True Halloween Story

What’s the scariest thing that ever happened to you?  Can be Halloween related or not – going for creepy and spooky stuff!

By “story,” we don’t mean novel.  Try to keep it under 300 words.

#4 – Best FUNNY True Halloween Story

What’s the funniest thing that ever happened to you at Halloween?  Crazy Halloween party?  Wardrobe malfunction?

By “story,” we don’t mean novel.  Try to keep it under 300 words.

#5 – Random Twitter Promoter Prize

Tweet about the contest using the hashtag #gdgween and we’ll pick a random winner from all the tweets from today through the weekend.

For example:

I just entered to win a free Adventure Art magazine by submitting a picture of me dressed as a dalek.  http://su.pr/2G2Z5U #gdgween

I really hope I win the AvatarArt contest at Geek’s Dream Girl! http://su.pr/2G2Z5U #gdgween

A Winner Is YOU!

Since we know you will all be partying on 10/31, we’ll give you until the end of the day on Monday, 11/2/09 to get your entries in.  Feel free to enter as many times as you wish in any or all categories!

Since J is our resident Halloween-freak, she’ll be the lead judge on the photos and stories and will post the winners once they’ve been decided!  The Twitter winner will be chosen at random from all uses of the hashtag #gdgween through 11/2/09.

Thank you to the awesome folks at AvatarArt for donating these prizes.  They do amazing work – you’ll really want to get your hands on their stuff.  Check out their portrait of my cleric, Mielka.   Get some scary monsters for your campaign – check out Adventure Art #3 and enter to win!

Don’t forget, we have a Halloween sale going on through 11/2/09.  Get 25% off all Geek’s Dream Girl services – even the Gold package!  Special bonuses for GeekMMM members!  Click here to check it out.

Two years in a row, that costume was…

  2. J says:

    Awesome! Keep ‘em coming!

  3. AvatarArt says:

As a bonus, if the winning story makes me (Steve G.) personally laugh or creep me out, we’ll add in a complimentary download of Issue #1 + Issue #2 so you’re all caught up on our first three Adventure Art magazines.

I’m not a good judge of costumes, which is why that’s best left up to J.

Ok so I don’t think my costume is as geektastic as I had hoped. Yet another year has passed me by without fully investing a real cosplay costume (which would come in handy come Halloween).

So here is the Halloween costume I wore to the office (picture is from the 09 Star Trek Convention but you get the idea). Me in my new style Star Trek uniform. Sadly my costume looks very lame next to the guy in the full Ferengi costume.

  5. AvatarArt says:

Dice_Girl, don’t worry about the Ferengi’s costume. Remember Rule of Acquisition #284: “Deep down, everyone’s a Ferengi.”

Besides, people get points for effort- rather than just give out copies we thought they should go to those who showed they wanted them. :)

E, would it make sense to extend the submission period another day so it lines up with your ‘25% off all Geek’s Dream Girl services + special bonuses for GeekMMM members’ Halloween Sale?

From what I saw, many people who went out last night will be spending today regenerating lost hit points. Dang failed Fortitude saves & all.

One of my two geekiest costumes ever.

The Black Night (“It’s just a flesh wound!”)

    http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1086187&l=b6e223b46c&id=564436075

This one was, unfortunately, not for halloween. This was for the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race, an engineering competition where a bunch of engineering students race down a hill on a concrete toboggan. It’s great fun!

Anyways, our team theme this year was Monty Python’s Holy Grail. The costumes were elaborate. I also have a great photo of the 5 knights (Sir Robin, etc), which I unfortunately can’t share due to it being on someone else’s Facebook account and not being public.

The helmet is made of sheet steel (we made a similar, but pointed, one for Sir Bedivere), and the stickers on it are from opposing teams.

I’m trying to find the picture of my other geekiest costume ever.

My fiancee and I once went to a Halloween Rave dressed as Red Mage and White Mage from Final Fantasy 1/8-Bit Theater.

It’s a great picture, and a great pair of costumes. Once she gets up, I’ll try to find it with her. I’ve had no luck on my own.

I’ve already got a copy of the new Adventure Art (which is totally badass, by the way), but I really, really want to show off my costume.

  11. Bartoneus says:

I also already have a copy of the Adventure Art issues, but I have to enter my wife’s costume from last year because it was great!

    @Bartoneus

Nice. We had a “witch” with our Monty Python group, too, though most of the girls were the girls of Castle Anthrax.

    …which was, admittedly, awesome.
