Darya & I “met” on the intarwebz what feels like eons ago. I am a huge fan of her blog, SummerTomato.com, and have even contributed to it a few times. (The most popular one is my post on how I broke free of my diet soda addiction.) Darya’s passion for fresh food is contagious. She’s the one who inspired me to get out to my local farmers markets and fill my bags with rainbow chard, eggplant, kohlrabi, beets, and all sorts of goodies.
I’ve received an early copy of Darya’s book Foodist and it is AWESOME. It’s everything I love about her blog and then some. I really think it’s the diet book to end all diet books, so if you’re a geek with a few extra pounds — or one who is thin now, but can’t remember the last time you ate a vegetable that wasn’t fried — this book is for you.
The official blurb:
Darya Pino Rose, a neuroscientist and the creator of the popular blog SummerTomato.com, offers a first-of-its-kind “healthstyle” book.
In Foodist: Using Real Food and Real Science to Lose Weight Without Dieting, Darya gives us a savvy, practical guide to ending the diet cycle and attaining lifelong weight control through love of food and the fundamentals of science.
Cutting through the typical diet jargon—what to eat, how much to eat, and when to eat it—Darya’s new book offers a proven solution to lasting weight control. Taking readers through the nutrition and psychology involved in not just eating, but eating well, Darya teaches us how to incorporate fresh, seasonal, and delicious ingredients into every meal—and reveals how to move beyond daily obstacles and bad habits to keep the tasteless, empty, and unsatisfying food-like products off your plate.
Losing weight should not be about sacrifice, deprivation, and willpower. Darya wants everyone to see mealtime as a celebration, not a battle, and shows us that good food is the key to sustainable weight loss.
