Is your dating profile currently lacking in results?
You’ve been told there are Plenty of Fish in the sea, but every time you cast your reel it seems to come back empty. You’re so over that stupid (Ok)Cupid and are nearing the point of fearing being forever alone and never finding your true Match.
Or maybe the situation isn’t quite that dire, but you’d just like to go on some dates. That’s equally valid too.
We get it – looking for love online can sometimes be frustrating. Luckily for you, we know how to make sure you’re putting your best foot forward.
Writing About Yourself is Hard
Are you having a hard time figuring out how to describe yourself and what you’re looking for in a potential partner?
This is something most people struggle with. A tiny bit of self-deprecating humor can work in a dating profile (it shows you don’t take yourself too seriously), but it’s fine line to tread. It’s not always easy to write about ourselves in positive, non self-effacing terms.
Way too many geeks I know don’t give themselves enough credit in general. When this gets translated into an online dating profile, they present themselves as a watered down version of their true awesome, interesting, intelligent, vibrant and very datable selves.
Start thinking of your online dating profile as if it were a resume. People reading your profile and looking at your photos are looking to fill the position of ________ (insert what kind of connection they are looking for here.) As such, a dating profile should highlight your best attributes, relevant skills and personality type.
To continue the resume analogy, keep in mind that while you may not be the perfect fit for every position, there’s someone out there looking for what you have to offer. When you’re applying for jobs, you also typically have to send out a lot of cover letters (or in our case, opening messages) to land some interviews (dates).
Does this still sound overly complicated? Did I take the resume metaphor too far? Are you feeling like you could use some more help attracting the geek lady or man of your dreams?
Fear no more!
Geek’s Dream Girl is giving away a complete dating profile rewrite. That’s right – we’re giving away a brand, spanking new profile written specially for one lucky winner!
The new profile will be written by our new writer LJ (that’s me) and highlight how fantastic you are in a way that is authentic your geeky self.
This is the same service you would receive with our Silver d20 package. You’ll also get feedback on your profile photo selection and a one hour-long coaching session.
The contest winner’s revamped profile will be featured in an upcoming before/after post on the site. (Don’t worry; we won’t share a link to your profile unless you’re cool with it.)
To enter the contest, just leave a comment below explaining why your profile needs some extra help.
A winner will be chosen at random on Tuesday, July 16. (Make sure to include your e-mail address so we can get in touch with you.)
