Favorite Finds: Journey

In light of the recent next-gen console controversy, I decided to check out some PS3 games for the first time.  After all, I'd pretty much decided I'd go with Playstation  at the end of the year, based on how the company has represented itself this year and my previous love for the PS2.  However, the PS3 has been out for ages and it might be a little silly to jump in whole-hog when I've missed the intervening seven years or so. Today's game, Journey, is absolutely my favorite so far.  It's a … [Read more...]

The Console Wars: Attitude is Everything

The console wars.  It's a phrase that gets tossed around, but rarely has it actually applied like it has for the last week.  Of course we're all viewing this from our own lens - with our own loyalties, history, personal circumstances, etc - and that shapes our opinion, but most would agree on two points: a)XBox/Microsoft can't seem to keep their collective foot out of their mouth, and b)Playstation/Sony has been taking advantage of this with sometimes hilarious results. Honestly, if you'd … [Read more...]

KK’s Keen Comics, May 1st, 2013 Releases

First of May, first of May, outdoor comic reading starts today! Or something like that. This is a Marvel week. I try and spotlight things I haven't mentioned usually, but the top three were all so strong this week, I felt like I couldn't ignore them. Great titles coming out with great issues makes me a happy comic review girl! Hawkeye #10 We've seen this clown-faced killer before, but really had no idea who he was or why we should care about him more than any of the track-suited mob he was … [Read more...]

Favorite Finds: The Catherine Tate Show

Way back when Catherine Tate first popped up in the TARDIS for a Christmas Special, I had heard she was "a comedienne in the UK" but that was about all I knew.  Later, Donna Noble would become one of my very favorite companions.  There were moments where she was hilarious, but it wasn't a role I'd really call comedic (and her story crushed me in the end).  Now, she's a regular on the US version of The Office, but again, the humor can be a little dry.  So let's talk about a show where Catherine … [Read more...]

Favorite Finds: Spaceteam and Little Inferno

These days, most of my gaming time is taken up by World of Warcraft.  However, in recent months I've been introduced to a few games on my iPad that I loved pretty much instantly.  Even better, these are low-committment games; one is the kind you can pick up at any time, even months from now, and the other is a short game that was devoured in a few hours.  And best of all, they're considerably cheaper than shelling out $50 for a new console game.  Naturally I had to share.  Spaceteam This is, … [Read more...]

World of Warcraft Battle Pets: Gotta Catch ‘Em All

As I've mentioned earlier, I'm quite enjoying the Mists of Pandaria expansion for World of Warcraft; I've been more regularly involved than I have since probably the Lich King.  Still, I've reached a bit of a natural lull in the action.  I'm still raiding, yes, but I don't do that every day.  I'm still churning along with my dailies so I can rack up the valor points, but I'm exalted with almost everyone so that's become slightly tedious.  What's a girl to do when she wants a break from the … [Read more...]

Miami Connection: Sheer 80′s Awesomeness

If you live near a movie theater that shows independent films, you might have heard about the midnight movie phenomenon that is Miami Connection.  If not, though, don't fret: the movie is now available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and reasonably-priced digital copy... and trust me, this is not something you want to miss. Miami Connection had a very limited release back in 1987 before it was declared a flop and immediately forgotten.  Almost 25 years later, the Alamo Drafthouse purchased a print of the … [Read more...]

Geek Guilt and the Wii U

Way back in 2006, the Wii came out.  And I got one that very same week.  I don't remember if I wound up standing in line for that one - actually I think I might have gotten it through some sort of online deal, though it's all a bit fuzzy.  I remember how I felt, though: I was so excited , so sure that the Wiimote was the way of the future, so much more intuitive than punching buttons.   Cut to today.  The Wii U was released a few weeks ago... and I didn't even know about it until launch day. … [Read more...]

Mists of Pandaria: Settling in Nicely

Okay, time to be honest.  When Mists of Pandaria was first announced for World of Warcraft, I was a bit underwhelmed.  Thrilled about any new expansion, sure.  Did I buy the Collector's Edition?  Absolutely.  But... pandas?  The whole brewing beer thing?  I'm not sure how I feel about appropriating all the Asian architecture and music, for pandas.  Wasn't Kung-Fu Panda done already?  The whole thing just seemed so silly after the Epic Epic Epicness of Cataclysm. Now cut to a few weeks after … [Read more...]

Launch Day Tales: Let’s Hear ‘Em

It's the middle of Tuesday afternoon, and I should be playing World of Warcraft.  I intended to be playing it; I preordered the Collector's Edition ages ago.  However, because I love the game soundtrack, the behind-the-scenes DVD and a few other perks, I chose to go hard-copy instead of digital.  And now, as I wait more than twelve hours after the launch of the game, I pay for it.   Seriously, though, I'm not all that upset.  I knew I ran this risk when I decided to go for the Collector's … [Read more...]
