PAX Prime Panel: Fantasia: Music Evolved

I've attended PAX East for the past few years, but this year I had the opportunity to attend the mother-con, PAX Prime.  Though there are dozens of panels to choose from, there was one caught my attention immediately: a panel about a collaboration between Harmonix and Disney's Fantasia.  Though I obviously knew about the other big Disney game of the year, I hadn't heard about this at all (I suppose my attention was diverted during E3).  But as a woman who loves Disney, loves Harmonix, loves … [Read more...]

Launch Day Tales: Let’s Hear ‘Em

It's the middle of Tuesday afternoon, and I should be playing World of Warcraft.  I intended to be playing it; I preordered the Collector's Edition ages ago.  However, because I love the game soundtrack, the behind-the-scenes DVD and a few other perks, I chose to go hard-copy instead of digital.  And now, as I wait more than twelve hours after the launch of the game, I pay for it.   Seriously, though, I'm not all that upset.  I knew I ran this risk when I decided to go for the Collector's … [Read more...]

PAX East: First Look at Rock Band Blitz

I've just completed my second year of PAX East and once again, I'm overwhelmed and exhausted when I think about summing up my experience.  I may not have gotten to spend as much time as I liked on the go (seasonal allergy headaches and dehydration are an angry combination) but isn't that always the way of cons?  The experience was still overwhelmingly positive and again, next year I want to spend even more time peeling the PAX onion of experiences. I made it a point to catch one panel.  Last … [Read more...]

Rock Band 3: Now With Totally Rad Keytar

I've mentioned this before, but Harmonix and I go way back.  If it's a game that involves rhythm, music and orbs flying towards me, chances are I'll like it.  Thus, it's probably not a surprise that yesterday the FedEx truck pulled up with a long, thin box containing Rock Band 3 and the new keyboard controller. My Rock Band setup is kind of a motley assortment.  I'll be honest - I never got used to the Rock Band guitar controller, so I still use two wireless Guitar Hero 3 controllers.  The … [Read more...]

There and Back Again: Where Will Video Games Go Next?

The year was 2002. I was the last one in my circle of friends to be informed of a little mini-craze that was sweeping arcades across the nation, or at least the ones in larger cities: Dance Dance Revolution.  After being assured of its awesomeness, we headed to the local arcade, where apparently they had not only DDR, but other weird games from Asia as well. And there, the Bemani collective blew my mind. … [Read more...]
