Let the Right One In: More Heart Than Arterial Spray

lettherightonein

You might have seen previews for the movie Let Me In and thought, Yawn, another vampire movie for the teeny-boppers.  Nothing to see here. Well, what you might not know is that the film was based on a Swedish movie from 2008, Let the Right One In.  And that film, my friends, is anything but derivative sparkly-neo-vamp fare.  In fact, if you're on the fence at all about paying theater prices to check out a vampire film, I suggest you try the original first (available on Netflix Instant).  … [Read more...]

iPad: My Trusty Companion

cat-ipad

Contrary to popular girl stereotype, I am not a big phone person. I was a senior in college before I even got a cell phone - and that is not a marker of my age, trust me.  Everyone I knew had a cell phone.  And when I finally got one, it was a trusty little Samsung that I wore into the ground. Today, the only person I talk to on the phone on a regular basis is my mother.  I text people rarely, if ever.  I'm extremely slow at it, since I don't get the practice.  After the trusty … [Read more...]

Pulling the Plug on Cable TV

reception

I was an early adopter of Netflix; my queue began in 2001.  I can't remember the last time I got a DVD, though - I've been getting more than my money's worth just using Instant.  In recent … [Read more...]

Red Ring of Death: Now What?

I've had my 360 since early 2006 - we bought it specifically to play Fight Night Round 3, if I remember correctly.  Since then, there were zero problems with it, and when people would whine about their Red Rings of Death I would offer condolences but think things like, They must have let them get overheated or They're one of those people who leaves the thing on pause all night long. Then, just days past the three-year warranty, my 360 has three quadrants glowing a sinister red and I'm left … [Read more...]
